Irwin tilted his head.

" I beg your pardon? The gem box is no more than 15 G. "

He scratched his head.

" Maybe I should be a little more adamant about carving more price handles... Ah well, it's fine. Perhaps I can find something else. Most everything in this store does not go over 35 G, so maybe something else suits your needs... "

Lupina also heard the snap. She turned calmly to face the newcomer, while raising her left hand to give a cheerful wave.

It was strange for a monster to be heading out on a night like this, but not unheard of. Usually it was teenagers going out into the forest for various reasons. Still, this was not a face she recognised.

Lupina opened her mouth to also say something, but the glance from Sans made her pause. Usually she would have called out herself, but in this situation, with Sans here, she instead decided to hold back, letting him talk. She closed her mouth, and casually took a step back.

As she was not talking to the young skeleton directly, the dog took a few seconds to look around. Checking for anyone (or anything) else in the area of interest. she wasn't expecting anything, but it was always good practice to keep an eye out.

The stout monster shuffled his way through the chilling snow at a leisurely pace; hands in pockets and head tilted back slightly in a relaxed fashion. Once he was within talking-range he slipped his left hand out and motioned a lazy wave, "'Sup Lupina?" he greeted with a mild chuckle. Her genuine eagerness and cheerful demeanour had always been a welcoming sight for as long as Sans could remember, and this time was no exception.

The skeleton gave a guilty shrug, "Sorry about that. Losing track of time has been a habit I've developed recently." he apologised and omce he was beside her they had started the usual route of patrol. Ordinarily he'd much rather stay at his post and avoid any unneeded exercise, but on nights like these he could make the exception when with company.

Sans was about to bring up some conversation with the fellow canine when something had caught his attention and by contrast with his movements earlier, his skull snapped towards the direction of what presumably was the snapping of a branch and the utterance of someone.
'That's different.' he thought to himself.

He was very good at his job after all, despite what many might have assumed.

"Hey." he called out to the monster before casting Lupina a wary side-glance of caution and then continued, "Everything okay there?"

A young skeleton girl makes her way to the edge of Snowdin. She walks quickly, swerving around any monsters in her path. She tries not to make eye contact with any of them, because she is trying to get to her destination as quickly as possible.

Her name is Pristina. She is a resident of Snowdin, but she barely knows any of the monsters living there. She refuses to make friends, because she can't trust any of them. And, if they were smart, they wouldn't trust her either. This particular night was one of the many reasons why. Pristina glances around quickly, her eyes scanning the terrain around her. Nobody in sight. Good. She continues on her way to the Sentry station.

Once there, she hears the voices of the guards on duty that night. Pristina mutters to herself angrily, skirting around the station as quietly as possible. She needed to go just a few more feet.... and everything would go as planned.

That is, if she could get there without being noticed.

cRACK

Pristina winces. "Crap..." She was sure to be noticed now.

Undyne gave a simultaneous shrug and pulled an expression showing that she understood and felt his response was also fair. He might be a bit of an enigma, but even enigmas have personal things they're not obligated to share too.

"Hmm," she hummed with a thoughtful frown, "I suppose that's true. No sense in worrying about what ifs now. This time I've been informed, vest if I make the most of it."

She then quirked an eyebrow at the expressed caution; if anything it couldn't help but rouse suspicion for the fish monster. The Captain would heed his advice, though perhaps she might give Alphys a call to check up on her at some point, just to make sure she's okay. The blue monster didn't quite trust the armored being just yet afterall.
"Sure, Sans first it is then."

Undyne then nodded at his words, grateful for it and instilling more confidence in the scaled warrior. Finally a toothy grin flashed at her fishy lips as a chuckled reverberated from her, "Well that's what I'm here for, to stop the ugly from happening." the Captain asserted before turning to face the deeper depths of Waterfall and started to make her way out of the ruins.

The way her bare feet challenged the sharp debris and cobblestone, crushing the smaller pieces in defiance - despite protests her feet cried for - was oddly symbolic in a way; for this mysterious too had just pulled her out of the wreckage, "Yeah I'll be fine and thank you. You might have been an jackass before but you're alright. Take care of yourself."
With that the heroine was gone, carrying much thought with her as she went.

Lupina's ears perked up as Sans approached. "Hi" She responded, she sounded almost too chipper, but in her case it was entirely genuine. "I have been ready for a while... N-Not that your late or~ well you are maybe a tiny bit late but not super late and I got here early." Lupina spoke in a continuous, but lively, sentence. She only paused when she interrupted herself.

Lupina grinned as she stepped out of the guard post.  The canine did not plan on wasting any time. She always felt more alive and alert at night, and wanted to take full advantage of that fact.

A fpggy breath exhaled through the teeth of the ever-smiling skeleton on this cool night in Snowdin. The stout monster shuffled leisurely  through the snow, and as always, with his hands in his pockets.

Soon enough, he was within view of the canine sentry, to which he gave a lazy wave of a greeting and spoke up once he was within earshot. He was late, but thankfully not late , "'Sup?" Sans drawled out casually, "Been a while since I last went on patrol, so it's nice to have some company. Ready to go?"

Snowdin / Night-watch

Lupina sat in her sentry-post, just outside town She had arrived slightly early, Not wanting to be late. To say it was a cold night would have been redundant here in Snowdin forest, but it was certainly colder than normal. Lupina shifted her feet uncomfortably, she found herself wishing she had worn thicker boots.

For Lupina the nightwatch (Or Midwatch, as it was referred to officially) was a common assignment. She often ended up patrolling alone, and that suited her. It was quiet. Calm, the cave roof was pretty. She honestly did not understand at all why the other dogs objected to the Midwatch. For tonight though, someone else would be on watch with her, She would be sharing the watch with Sans.

Lupina leaned out the front of the post, looking back into Snowdin itself. Sans had to be on his way by now, and the sooner he got here, the sooner they can go on patrol.

”Mm, maybe it does maybe it doesn't. I have my reasons.” Both a reaction and an example, quite amazingly put too.

Letting Undyne process her thoughts aloud, the enigma in white simply nodded. It was, as colourfully as Undyne said 'such bullshit'— and she wasn't even among those that experienced it in a direct fashion like Sans for instance. ”Indeed; it would be exhausting. I can confirm that it is exactly that... However, waste of time?” The armored one shook his head. ”Not at all a waste of time. A direct explanation doesn't always give the best results. Always caused paranoia, unrest, panic, et cetera.” No doubt something Undyne as Captain of the guard wanted to avoid completely if able.

Undyne was always pretty proactive on things like this, a very welcome occurrence. ”Good, you should talk to Sans first. Doooon't talk to Alphys just yet.” There he was again, speaking as if he knew something. ”I mean, you won't be able to most likely. Hard to explain— its mostly her work schedule conflicting with yours for a good while; it is not my place to tell you what she knows. Just go to Sans first, okay?”

Her thoughts on Asgore were interesting too. She was right, if Asgore didn't deviate from the original plan, well... Not much good could possibly come of it. ”Hah, 'this time', how topical. True though, seems like that is how it is.” Perhaps Undyne could get through to Asgore in the end. Only time would tell, as it always has. ”You're lucky, your faith is more or less well placed at the moment. I hope it stays that way. When it doesn't, and he ends up the exact opposite of what you believe... Things get ugly.”

The mysterious monster folded his arms and gave Undyne one last look over. ”Do you think you'll be alright now, then?”

The fish monster nodded a couple of times at his reaction before pointing out with a shrug and a mild frown, “Keeping an air of ambiguity doesn’t exactly help, but I suppose you have your reasons.”

She then scratched the back of her head with low grunt of frustration, “That is such bullshit for it to keep happening like that! And since this has apparently happened many times over then explaining it to just about anyone would be exhausting and a waste of time to do something about it.” the Captain continued, this time saying her thoughts aloud more so than talking to the mysterious figure for now. The gears started turning as she thought over what had been just said again and tapped a finger to her chin contemplatively. Everything else she felt confused and guilty about seemed trivial now that she was looking and thinking about the bigger future.

Her goal to protect Monsterkind.

What good was she if her own mind and memories were turned against her, “I want to start setting up precautions in case things start over again so at the very least I am aware or reminded of this possibility somehow because I can’t do my job effectively if I don’t even know what’s going on. I have a feeling I might not be able to do whatever it is you and Sans do to keep track of things, but I might just start talking to him or Alphys about those headbands from the mines. Like some sort of emergency-on-the-spot-solution in case it happens again sort of thing.”
It seemed that Undyne begged to differ about having such knowledge, the stubborn fish wasn’t going to just accept things as they are forever just yet!

Undyne was snapped out of her train of thought when asked the questions regarding their king, “If I’m honest it’s likely one of those situations where I’ll cross the bridge when I get there sort of situations. Given what’s happened I think he would be hard-pressed to stick to his original plan now and he seemed willing to listen to more options this time at least. If I feel or someone has expressed their concerns about flaws I will talk to him about it and see what happens. He isn’t ruthless or unkind, I still have faith in him. I’m just –” she then twirled her wrist a few times as she was collecting her thoughts, “- A little confused right now but I think I can work through it.”
