Waterfall / Waterfall Sonata Reprise (Undyne and ???)
« Last post by Undyne on December 15, 2018, 06:21:03 pm »
In Character Date & Time: 13th November UUY 1, approximately 10-11 PM

Set after Part II - Fighting For Freedom & A Path Come Full Circle

After making sure that everyone was able to head home safely, the matter with June, Austin and J.O.H.N. taken care of and one last check with the guards spread across the Underground for the umpteenth time that there weren’t any serious causalities with the citizens of the Underground; Undyne had made a beeline straight to Waterfall.

She had removed her tattered, once-brand-new shoes and tossed them aside. She then awaited for the mud to sink and slurp about her toes; the fish monster closed her eye to take in her very much welcomed peaceful surroundings in isolation. She breathed in the cool, oddly-pleasant humid air slowly and listened to water flowing and insects buzzing in an oddly quiet, sombre harmony. It was almost as though, they knew what the warrior was feeling.

The next thing Undyne did was take a few steps forward before plunging into a nearby pool of water, smoothly floating and drifting through the water like a plastic bag flying through the wind until her back gently tapped the bottom of the pool. Looking up, she stared through the crystal clear water, fluid flowing calmly through her lips and gills at the sides of her neck as she lay there with her arm stretched out and feet half buried into the gravel.

Undyne lay there in comforting, eerie silence for several minutes, allowing for the events of what had just happened to sink in. Until suddenly, she let out a mighty scream. A scream of anger, frustration, humiliation, confusion and regret which was muffled by the vast volume of water and which could not be heard above the water’s surface, but quite certainly be heard by her fellow aquatic brethren were there any hidden away in this pond. She shot off to the side, slamming a fist against the rocky wall, pulverizing a deep hole into it as she bellowed; completely venting her pent up emotions into this once-wall. She didn’t stop punching and screaming until she was completely drained, panting heavily as she floated to the top of the pond. Still staring at the ceiling, she eventually drifted off to the side of the pond and pulled herself out of it. Undyne frowned as a few thoughts ran through her mind, until she eventually made the decision to head back to where she was when all this trouble started.

To the hall where the party was hosted.

Sometime later Undyne had reached the hall, left half destroyed from the quakes. Her eye wandered along the ground which was littered with debris and broken furniture. She then carefully waded through the wreckage until she came to a stop where the food table was once set up. It had been flattened by a reasonably large chunk of wall, splattering all kinds of food and drinks under and around it. The warrior then summoned a spear-in-hand, wedged it underneath the chunk of wall and awkwardly twisted her body on top of it as her one arm latched onto the weapon until her weight had created enough leverage to lift the wall and kicked it off the crushed table.

‘Where did I go wrong?’ she thought to herself with a sigh when the Captain finally came to a stop in front of her new piano; now covered with rubble, scratches, dents and dust from the building. It appeared to be still intact and surprisingly playable. So the blue monster then placed the dishes down and used both her arm and body to heave the rubble off of the piano; allowing for it to topple into a messy heap on the other side.

The lid over the keys was raised in a slow, creaking motion as Undyne took a seat in front of it. The placing of just one hand only served as a vivid reminder of what had happened, but still, the pianist needed to express the complex thoughts and feelings which haunted her for her violent outburst earlier was simply just not enough.

She started off with playing the bass keys – two, sometimes three at a time - on the left side on its own. The lonely tones were reflective of but a lone wolf baying to a moon, in search of other voices to join her. About half a minute later she summoned five small, chopstick-sized spears – all of which hovered above the right keys vertically. Like she was baring her soul into the music, Undyne lowered her head as she listened, concentrated and finally the spears aided in completing the sombre, reflective piece.

For one so brash, brave and loud, this was a rare moment to be able to find Undyne expressing herself in a much more emotional and finessed manner. One with her magic and discipline, turned into another extension of herself as she allowed for the tune to carry her weight and echo throughout this portion of Waterfall.

Such temporary moment of eerie serenity didn't last however, for moments after she had finished playing the song a few times a frustrated growl hissed from the fish monster. It seemed that her muddled thoughts from earlier were still lingering. She hated this feeling, the feeling of uncertainty of what to do. She raised her fist and slammed it onto the keys, the force behind it was enough to splinter a chunk of the piano and sent some ivory keys flying in all directions.

"DAMN IT ALL!"

Next thing the fire elemental knew her phone started blaring two consecutive alarms which urged for her immediate attention; it was so sudden thay it provoked a startled yet harmless crackle and pop from Fia's hair. She then fished out her phone from her small handbag and her delightfully vibrant, lime green eyes shot through the screen several times.

"Oh soot and ashes!" Fia exclaimed, taking on a tone that sounded like she just spat out a disgusting swear and before long her eyes earnestly looked back up at those gathered at the table currently, "A client who I booked a party - with you Luis as part of the entertainment - had just requested to move it from tomorrow to tonight and what's worse, the singer for that same party has called in sick and can no longer perform!" she proclaimed with distress whilst she reverently tapped the tip of her nail to her teeth as her mind raced to anxiously raced for a quick solution.

The fire elemental's gaze briefly gazed at the table where they were waiting to see if any other monster would sign up to join the slam, but alas, her work and clients was something she prioritised over an leisurely event she had frequented. Especially since, Fia didn't exactly have a whole lot of extra cash to fling around to reject the change of plans.

So, Fia stood up and gave Yanezi an apologetic look, "I'm sorry Yan, we're gonna have to skip out on this one duty calls! I'm sure that you'll have a grand time still!" she announced before taking both one of Luis' and River's hands in her own, "Sorry but we gotta go, I would ve super grateful if you guys wouldn't mind missing out tonight and River, maybe you could help me with last-minute solutions along the way I would greatly appreciate it! I'm really, really sorry!"

With that Fia, Riverperson and Luis were hurried towards the exit, but before they disappeared from sight, Fia gave one final, energetic wave to everyone present and then the door slammed **** behind them, sealing the cafe away from the frosty wind outside.

(This post also includes the exit posts of Riverperson and Luis, as per requested by their respective RPers.)

Woodland / Re: A Grandly Gilded Adventure (Hastings & Idris)
« Last post by Antiqua Hastings on December 10, 2018, 01:24:33 pm »
With his paw against the pristine surface of the mirror, a strange warmth seemed to bloom from the palm of his hand along the reflective surface, like another being had placed it's hand on his through the thin glass veil of a window pane. The twinge of movement occurred once more, this time unmistakably from his own reflection as 'his' ear idly flicked without any impetus from Idris.
"...Hastings..." his reflection answered with some hesitance. The voice however was not his own, a soft, cracking, and dry pitch like ancient papers rustling against themselves on some forgotten shelf. His touch being the breeze which once again moved them after centuries of neglect.

With his paw still raised, the newly dubbed "Hastings" leaned forward. Looking cautiously about the room, both within and without of his gilded frame. A look of subtle distress creasing the features of Idris's reflection as it spoke to him again, looking him in the eyes like a small lost child.
"...Where are we, Idris?"

Underground Archives / Royal Guard Handbook
« Last post by Zarc Tenebris on December 10, 2018, 12:14:12 am »
Overview
So you want to have a character in the Royal Guard? Well, you've come to the right place for some quick info! This thread will make it easier for you to have the know-how on how to make a character in the peacekeeping organization known throughout the Underground.

While it is quite a big deal in character and Monsters are expected to take their job among the ranks seriously, that's just it— that's in character! Out of character, we here at Underground Unlimited simply want to provide relevant information for those that might find themselves stuck or in need of advice on what to do whilst the moderation team is unavailable.

Duties & Responsibilities
Lets get down to the specifics now. As said prior; members of the Royal Guard are expected to do a multitude of things. At the most basic level, they are thus:

Physical Fitness
Can't have a Royal Guard unable to act now can we? Even those with less physical specializations and jobs are expected to be of above average fitness as is appropriate and applicable for the limitations of their species.

Magical Fitness
Magic is everywhere, and it makes sense that members of the Royal Guard can perform it— those that can, regardless of job, are expected to keep their abilities up to standard as is appropriate and applicable for the limitations of their species.

Maintenance
  • Uniform & Gear - Members of the Royal Guard are expected to keep their issued uniform and gear in good condition; if any of their gear is broken beyond repair by personal maintenance; it is expected that their commanding officer is notified so that repairs/replacements can be made.
  • Offices, Facilities & Stations - Much like gear, one's workspace is to be kept tidy and in order. In the events of disaster or unforeseen circumstance wherein these things are damaged or destroyed, their commanding officer should be notified so that repairs/replacements can be made.
General Conduct
Being part of the Royal Guard is a big deal in character, and members of the organization are expected to carry themselves appropriately at all times; even off duty. This is to foster an environment where the respect Royal Guards earn from citizens is in fact earned rather than demanded. People are of course flawed, and accidents happen; appropriate IC consequences will be acted upon in these events after discussion between the moderation team and the member that writes for the character in question.

Dress Code
Realistically, Monsters come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. To that end, the dress code of the Royal Guard is adaptable to account for this sort of thing. The point of a uniform is to make it so  civilians can easily recognize a member of the Royal Guard. Because of that, members of the organization are restricted from altering or adding their uniform beyond what is completely necessary for their physiology. Here you will find notes on the various uniforms of the Royal Guard.

Standard
The standard uniform consists of a standard dress shirt, with the following arrangement of colours; white, black, gold, or purple. black/navy dress slacks or knee-length straight skirt,  a black/brown leather dress belt with gold buckle and leather dress shoes or boots. The assigned accessories include a badge with magic ID, unit name & specialization and a badge depicting the Delta Rune (AKA the Dreemurr crest).

On Duty
The on duty attire, or 'utility uniform', is perhaps the most important part. It consists of a lightweight undershirt (or heavier undershirt depending on environmental needs) in white/cream/grey, a long sleeved chainmail set (in the appropriate configuration as per the task/area), a reinforced leather breastplate sporting the Delta Rune, black leather bracers with bronze framing also sporting the Delta Rune, black leggings or utility pants of either cloth or comfortable leather and black leather boots reinforced by metal plates inside leather for the toes, top of foot, and shin.

Formal
Wanna look nice for the upcoming special events? Of course you do! The formal uniform sports a white button up dress shirt, white military style dress jacket (or tailcoat) with purple/black and gold accents, black formal pants or knee-length straight skirt, a thin black leather dress belt with gold buckle and polished knee-high boots in black leather with a low heel. As is obvious, it is expected to be worn neatly and tidily while in use.

Training
The typical training attire is super simple;  a short or Long-sleeved T-shirt in either white or grey (members of the Royal Guard are also provided some shirts with the Delta Rune on them, these may also be worn as part of this uniform), black gym shorts or workout leggings (black or grey sweatpants may be worn in cold weather) and close-toed running shoes or similar protective footwear depending on the location where training is conducted.

Again, depending on the species of monster, the Royal Guard uniform will need appropriate alterations— and that is unavoidable. As long as ones uniform is as close as possible to the general description while taking the species of the character into account, everything should be fine!

Daily Life
The Royal Guard have a lot of responsibilities; that much is obvious. The duties and tasks of any given member can and will vary depending on what needs to be done overall within the Monster community.

There are however several constants; such as regular training sessions (both physical and magical) with different exercises (both individual and team based) that happens several times a week (usually in the mornings), and typically on a squad/team basis. Any monster that is falling behind on training will be assigned extra time as needed.

The Royal Guard is organized in such a way that there is 24/7 coverage in all positions. Monsters on duty are typically scheduled for duty in eight hour shifts with breaks. Most members of the Royal Guard are given two days off a week, and depending on their profession these days are either mostly weekends (Sunday & Saturday) if they work administrative jobs, and otherwise change & rotate for other positions in the organization. Vacation time is also accumulated, and members of the organization are expected to notify their commanding officers far in advance if any of it is going to be used.

Sentries work a split shift of 4 hours. They do one round of duty then go have a break before returning. Watches are rotated through the week so that every Sentry can partake in 'Midwatch' where they are on duty from 12am to 4am on occasion. This shift is typically given to nocturnal Monsters first as it is when they are most active.

Basic IC Expectations
In order for the character to be up for consideration, the following things are expected of them:
  • Be at least 16 years of age (or the biological equivalent for their species).
  • Are an individual of sound mind and body.
  • Are decently proficient in core education topics.
  • Cannot have a criminal history.
Aside from regular recruitment drives, there are also youth programs available.

Basic Training & Early Days
All brand new cadets are scheduled for basic training. This takes about 10 - 12 IC weeks. Note that some specializations can require longer due to additional material that needs covering. During training, cadets will be supervised by the appropriate trainer who will encourage and train them to do the best of their ability. Though some recruits don't pass this process, in all cases they will still have learned valuable skills. Plus, nothing says they can't try again another time!

Sometimes, those with desirable or unique skills may be given recommendation or be hand picked by higher ranked officials; they go through their own training process at this time.

After passing basic training or achieving membership through being hand picked, both must start Royal Guard duties as Sentries. This makes sure all members of the Royal Guard are familiar with their eventual stations and the Underground overall.

Woodland / Re: A Grandly Gilded Adventure (Hastings & Idris)
« Last post by guest165 on December 06, 2018, 06:30:43 am »
The silence that met Idris’ address – the pattering of rain aside – felt anticlimactic to say the least. Still, the intense feeling of something or someone still being in here with the young kit did not wane in the slightest, despite the lack of an audible response to his verbal demands. It kept his senses on full alert, the sound of his own heart beating in his ears feeling loud by comparison to the muted audio of the storage room. Dark nostrils flared with his quietly panted breath, green-gold eyes darting from place to place as he tried to spy the source of this persistent nagging feeling.

Logic and instinct alike both ultimately brought his gaze back to that reflective surface.

That it was solid was without question, at least in the mundane sense that every mirror was. It was unclear if his further attempts to breathe away more of the crack had been successful or not, but that had become much a background concern to the more pressing feeling that had the hackles along his whole spine raised and prickling like they were charged with electricity. Still, in a world full of magic, one learned that not everything in it was ever as it seemed, and the flickers of his reflection at the edges of his vision only seemed to nag harder at the gut feeling that this ancient object was far more than met this youth’s eye.

Fear still clawed at him, gnawing away at his innards and wending around his soul, but a simple thought fought back as Idris took a step away from where he’d put his back to, right hand outstretching toward his own reflection: What if it’s just as alone and afraid as me?

Such a notion brought an upwelling of kindness from the kit, who was filled with the sudden realization that if there really was a being in the mirror, that it had been down here for a very, very long time. The whys and wherefores weren’t nearly as pressing, simply the knowledge that maybe they weren’t so very different in this moment was enough to make this noblemonster reach out, paw pressing to the mirror in a gesture meant to emulate one of friendship. “It’s okay,” he murmured softly, eyes scanning his own reflection, “I don’t wanna hurt you. I’m Idris. What should I call you?

There was no reply, only the pattering of the rain outside the window and his own breathing to mark the presence of anything outside of his person. His instincts however had not begun to wind down and cease to warn him of the unseen presence. Bafflingly, the natural intuition of direction, while offering no clear line of sight or direction, nagged earnestly to him...

...that he may have already laid eyes on it.

In spite of the mirror's solid structure and the fact that it's surface made no perceptible physical change beyond that which he had already smudged away in the form of the crack, but there was a flicker of motion in the corner of his vision from it's vicinity.

Though Woodland was known for its eternal state of summer – in contrast to its sister province of Snowdin and its eternal winter – rainy days such as these did often bring an almost autumnal crispness to the air, particularly if they lasted more than a few days. It certainly never got as balmy as Hotland – it wouldn’t do to compete with that fiery province seeing as it would be bad for crops after all – but it never got truly cold either, meaning that such a frigid temperature was definitely unusual indeed. The only places in the manor that Idris knew of that got that cold were the large, enchanted cold storage larders that served to preserve foodstuffs, either before they were used by the household, or in preparation for their transport to other provinces for sale and processing.

Of course after his helter skelter pelt away from the core of the domicile, the young kit was fairly warm to begin with, and that coupled with the excitement of so much discovery prevented the observant lad from noticing such a detail immediately as he wandered the room and eventually found his way to the mirror. And even as his fur began to prickle in response to feeling that chill as he cooled off and cleaned the mirror in the aftermath of his guffaw, it was easy to ascribe it to this place being unused and the exterior weather – to a point.

After all, how could one be afraid of monsters when you already were one?

Granted, the vulpine child could hardly have elicited a fear response from someone even if he tried, given his rather scrawny build and overall furred cuteness. It wasn’t really in his nature to try at any rate, despite his mock snarls in the mirror; those were merely goofy faces that every child makes, and it wasn’t like they were remotely intimidating anyway.

Perhaps it was that certainty that he was alone that let Idris be so bold as his breath fogged the mirror in his efforts to polish away the crumbs, the safety of his home lending him security even as he had his little adventure without any supervision – or even adults nearby to aid him. Such confidence didn’t lower his guard per se – seeing as it hadn’t ever been properly raised as of yet – but it did allow his inquisitive mind to come to the fore as he soaked in all the details about the mirror, finding it intriguing the more he looked at it.

Particularly when that scratch seemed to melt away with the warmth of his breath.

As Idris squinted at it – and even went to fog another portion of the scratch with his breath to try cleaning further after quickly chewing and swallowing his mouthful – there was that motion in the mirror that, while his eyes couldn’t quite perceive, his mind certainly did and sent up a few instinctual red flags of alarm in response to this visual oddity that felt wholly unnatural. Reflections did not move, not unless the source did or they were enchanted.

Or perhaps the mirror were more than just that.

Despite the cold that was already raising his fur to insulate him further, Idris felt the hackles along the back of his neck – and in fact all down his spine – raise in response to the sudden crawling sensation he felt along his length. Having been so certain that he was alone, the young heir now had a sudden certainly that he wasn’t, and given that the door had not opened since he’d shut it behind him, that meant that whomever – or whatever – was in the room with him had translocated in, or – perhaps worse – had been here all along.

Help – if he needed it – was much too far away, and to even seek it would mean admitting to his illicit exploration of this part of the house. And even to run would be tantamount to admitting some kind of guilt, not to mention potentially rouse the predatory instincts of whatever was in here with him now. No, Idris realized, he was all alone on this, and if he wanted to get out with his pelt intact, he was going to have to face his fears head on, just like Undyne. Thus, steeling his nerves like he imagined the Heroine of the Underground must do before facing her own foes, the youngest Canawyr child turned to face the direction where the feeling of that entity lurking was the strongest, attempting to keep his back to something solid while standing tall – relatively speaking – as he addressed the unknown more calmly than he felt:

Who’s there?
