"Be careful with this one, he has trouble standing still."

A voice calmly echoed in a joking tone as a strapping looking skeleton walked into the forge. As Mistral walked next to his brother, he gave him a soft tug on the shoulder, a teasing gesture to show how much he liked to mess with him. "But he's determined, I tell you that much. If he puts his mind to it, he can do anything."

Mistral looked to Cobalt, trying his best to smile. "The King spoke about your new forge, Cobalt, I'm very happy for you. Such an opportunity, yes? Very good news! Though I overheard you mentioning that you were nervous..." he said as he walked closer to her, crossing his arms, looking to the forge and then to her. "Perhaps you're just excited?" He added lightly.

The little dreemurr's bleat in response to the affection was perhaps one of the most adorable things Mistral had ever heard. Asriel truly was a blessing, but that only meant that Mistral had to work harder to assert the boy's responsibilities and growth. No, he would not help raise a spoiled prince! He would not bend easily, and Asriel was aware of that. The boy needed structure and guidance, but praise and affection was equally important. Balance was key. He was proud to see that Asriel, although begrudgingly, had put away his toys when Mistral had asked him to.

"You want to be tall too? Well you are your father's son, and your mother isn't too far off either. You'll just have to eat right and exercise. Speaking of which we will beginning your training soon.  And my snail pie might be 'yucky' " he playfully added, "but I know how to cook much more than that. If you want to get big and strong, you're going to have to eat ALL your food. Including your greens, young man. Maybe after you start eating those you can have the biggest piece of the pie." He chuckled.

"I draw'd them because I love them."

Mistral paused as he heard this, calmly looking to the drawing, then back to Asriel.

"...I love you too Asriel."

There was a few moments of silence before Mistral coughed.

"Right. Well, your room is clean, yes? Why don't we go show your mother now. And be sure to let her know what you told me just now, I'm sure it will just make her day."

[Move forward, huh? I'll be honest, it's kinda hard to do that when it feels like everything is moving in the same, endless loop.]

["....Doubt manifests itself it many ways, Sans. Sometimes it's forced upon, other times it's a clever tactic are minds will play to justify our lack of confidence. You cannot afford to lose vigilance... trust in yourself, my friend. Have faith in your ability to shape your destiny.

...I believe in you."]

Mistral could hear a clicking sound over the phone, as if someone else had arrived. He nodded, looking back to the phone piece.

["I understand, take care... be well."]

Mistral calmly placed the phone on the receiver before immediately shooting from his chair, a quiet and ferocious determination consuming his presence. Calm rage boiled in his shoulders as he grabbed his derby, slamming the door behind him.

Now to find Dr. Gaster.

[Exit Mistral]

You're the best big brother there is, no doubt about it, but I can't be you. Cuz I'm not. I can only be like me."

"That is correct. You cannot be anyone else but who you are. I'm proud of you that you came to that realization so early. I never expected you to try to imitate me, because it is not your nature. No Lucian, while you and I are different, I cannot help but respect your outlook on life. There are certain avenues of your skillset that I believe you should refine, such as your literary skills.." he scolded a bit, flicking his brother on the forehead. "...yet it is not my place for me to assert what it is you do. You've grown much enough on your own for you to decide what it is you wish to pursue."

"And to reference the cave story, you decided that it would be a good idea to just walk into the unknown without even attempting to gather information! Both Gerson and I tried to hop on your back to try and stop you, but you just continued to trek along the cave as if it were your domain, and as if we we were weightless! It as at that point I knew your stubbornness was a blessing, but a curse as well. You must remain aware of that as well. It will cause you trouble, but that is why we are training, to prepare you."

The older skeleton listened calmly to his brother's explanation for his choices, placing a finger on his chin as Lucian admirably expressed himself. He really was proud of his brother. They were both protectors, but in much different ways. A sword and a shield even. Both served the same purpose, yet fulfilled it in different ways.

"Very well....you've made yourself quite clear, brother."

Mistral adjusted his sleeves.

"You wish to protect? You wish to inspire peace? You wish to for people to believe in you and encourage them to believe in themselves? You better believe in yourself first."

Mistral's eyes darkened, his sockets practically howling with emptiness.

"Then you will prove that to me now!" He snarled, his fists clenching as he placed both fists behind his back. "You will prove to me that you are capable of defending yourself first! I may not be able to harm you, Lucian, but I can certainly judge your maneuvers and strength with my barriers and sight alone. You have ambition? Then you need to understand there is no room for error when it comes to a life! You need to be devoted, you need to adhere to your word! I will make sure that every spot of weakness is purged from your soul, and you will be the gallant warrior that you so desperately desire! But this is not my burden, it is yours. You have the talent, the gifts, the experience. You are my brother, Lucian!"

"Face me! Unleash your power upon me as if you wish to terminate my life, show me everything, do not hold back! I will know brother, I have seen you myself. You cannot afford to give it any less than your all! People will depend on you, they will need you, they will pray for you! This is not a game! DEVOTE YOURSELF TO PASSION AND ACHIEVE THE GREATNESS THAT YOU SO DESPERATELY DREAM FOR."

"The God of Hyper Death? I daresay, Asriel where did you come up with such a silly name?" Mistral chortled, shaking his head as he looked from the picture to Asriel, watching the boy run around his room yet again. "Well then, sounds like a good dream. I like it, however, I hereby dub thee "The God of Forgetting to Put Away His Toys!" The skeleton teased once more. "We all have to start somewhere, don't we? I've heard a secret by the way! The Tooth Fairy can't give you gold for a missing tooth if you have a messy room! And The Easter Bunny? He'll hop on top of a toy and bruise his toe, and he'll forget all about leaving a toy. And let's not forget Santa! I heard lately he's been putting people on a list that misbehave.... you better watch out, and no crying if you decide to keep your room this way!" Mistral continued to drive the point home.

When Asriel made his way back to the Caretaker, Mistral gave the prince a gentle rustle on his scalp,  his fingers messing up the goats fur a bit before gently patting it back down. He really did love the boy.

"Your father sure looks big and strong! Look at those horns! And your mother, as graceful as ever. And look at you, a smile that can brighten anyone's day... Oh? You don't say.... that's me? Well... thank you!" The skeleton cheerily laughed, pointing to himself. "Well... you certainly captured my strapping good looks, that's for sure. You think I'm that tall?" he teased yet again. "Ah yes! Snail pie! I've been working really hard to learn that recipe from your mother... I still haven't gotten it just right yet. Let me tell you Asriel, that is no easy treat, but someday, when you're just a bit older, all three of us can make it together, and then you can give your father the biggest piece!"

Mistral looked back over to Asriel. "Really now, you went through all this trouble....I know your mother will love this, well done Asriel." he praised softly. "I didn't know we had an artist in the family! But, I ask you this, out of everything you could have drawn, anything in your imagination, anything in the whole wide world... you drew your family, above all else...why is that?"

Castle Grounds / Re: Reassurance. (ASGORE)

Mistral felt himself pause, a small gush of emotion overtaking the caretaker as he comprehended everything that Asgore had just spoken. The skeleton was very much aware that the King appreciated his services, but something about the way he spoke this time.... it was a beautiful reassurance. He felt his jaw drop a bit at the sight of Asgore bowing....to him.

"I..I.....I..."

Mistral found it difficult to speak, his arms wide, his hands practically trembling. If Mistral were capable of it, he would be weeping.

"....It really is my pleasure, my King....you flatter me with your kindness.....but you are very welcome. It's been an honor serving the family, this opportunity has been such a blessing...I would not trade it for the world."

As Asgore reminded him of his quest, Mistral nodded, a bit abruptly as he was snapped out of his trance. "Indeed...sir." As he nodded, the caretaker reached for his hat, placing the black derby on his skull and adjusting his scarf. "....Be sure to organize the dishes accordingly though, if I may request, ...I do have a system in play! And yes, I will know if you try to cheat Asgore!"

And with that, Mistral was off.

There's a certain level of happiness that can only be achieved through the satisfaction of making someone else happy. As the boy sob's began to fade, Mistral continued to gently wipe away the tears. The boy was young, delicate, and impressionable. Looking into Asriel's eyes, that pure unadulterated innocence, it made Mistral want to shield the boy from the horrors the world had to offer. He placed his handkerchief gently on the princes nose as he would dab away any remain fluid that dripped from it.

When Mistral felt Asriel's embrace, the skeleton felt a powerful and gentle emotion brew deep within his soul. He felt warm, a small determination beginning to brew. Gingerly, he returned the gesture, remaining quiet for a few moments as the emotion of the situation settled in. When the child thanked him, Mistral's hug became just a bit tighter, "You are very welcome...I will always be there for you, Asriel. You are my friend." Mistral would then look the boy, a brightness to his skeletal features that seemed to glisten whenever he felt joy.

"There now... if you believe to be injured, we can have a look at it later, but you're strong Asriel, I don't think a little fall will stop you from your dreams, now will it?" The skeleton would chuckle lightly as he moved from the embrace, patting the boy's shoulders. "Let us see what you have drawn...."

"My word... I love it." The caretaker admitted, the emotion he felt earlier even stronger, instantly recognizing who the drawings would represent. Mistral did his best to not chuckle at the tall black figure next to the family, it was so funny to himself drawn that way. "But, dare I ask, who are these dashingly handsome devils, and what realm have you created for them? And what is the tall and skinny one holding in it's hands?" He teased, looking to Asriel with his jaw coyly open.

"Cobalt? She did that for you? Well, that's not so fair is it, perhaps I should get some armor too!" He laughed, knowing full well that armor was rather redundant for him. He sure loved teasing his little brother. Mistral would take a close look to Lucian's armor. "Your armor is very form fitting, great for mobility, but you'll have to be deft with your hands to parry away from your exposed areas. You can fix that with more armor, but I feel that your talents and reactions are capable of such feats to not need extra protection. Also..." Mistral calmly added, reaching over to a belt and pulling it tightly, tightening the slightly loose vest around his chest. "Do not forget to secure your defenses..." he added cheekily, waving a finger.

As he listened to his brother recite his goals to him, Mistral nodded politely.

"I see, fairly admirable Lucian. I'm proud of you. Tell me, where in the textbook did you copy that from?" Lucian's brother chuckled, patting him on the shoulder, as he looked towards the horizon. "Not that there is anything wrong with that.... but life will not always be that cut and dry." His voiced lowered as he would look back to his passionate sibling.

"...Be sure your goals are what you truly desire, not what you feel is expected of you. Bravery is noble, but there are times where boldness is just not enough. There are times where you must stop, and consider your options. There will be many times where the most heroic option may be least optimal. It is not cowardice to live to fight another day, it takes courage to have faith in yourself to recuperate and return stronger to a challenge you could not previously overcome."

"There is no meaning in strength used only to hurt others." Mistral would repeat, before seriously looking to his brother for a minute. "I admire that, but what do you believe defines strength, Lucian? Ask yourself that question. What is strength? When should we be strong?

"Make sure everything thing you say and do, has a purpose. Be vigilant and ready to describe why you chose your path, why you wished to gain strength."

"...Now, I will ask you once more, brother. What are your goals, your hopes, your ambitions, your dreams, why have you decided to put your life on the line on behalf of others? What are you offering the world?"

".... and you must never forget your answer."

Seeing the young boy, the culmination of both Toriel and Asgore's love, filled Mistral with jubilation. Magic was in the air as the Caretaker would follow the boy to his room. The bright and playful innocence of a fresh Spring flower, Asriel Dreemur. After everything that they had been through, the battles that were fought, the choices that were made, seeing the young prince happy and healthy, it made everything worth it. "A surprise you say? My word Asriel, have you finally put your toys away on your own! Marvelous!"

Mistral gave the boy a warm laugh as he was lead down the hallway, but it seemed as if his playful tease would go unnoticed, the boy was surely excited. "For your mother, how thoughtful I'm very proud of you, Asriel. Alright let us see what awaits in your room."

And sure enough, Mistral clicked his teeth in disdain at the state of the room. A sound the young boy was probably used to.

"Mr. Dreemur..." Mistral lightly scolded. "We talked about this, after we show your mother, we are cleaning this up. It is important you follow through on your word. As I've said, we are nothing without our integrity."

Though as much as Mistral believed in what he was saying, it still was difficult to be a responsible guardian to a face like that. Mistral developed a soft spot for the boy since the day he was born. Nevertheless, Mistral still had a duty to fulfill. No boy under his watch was going to grow up a lazy bones!

The guardian felt his mouth open in concern at what transpired next. He stood calmly for a moment before listening to the boy cry.

"...."

Calmly the tall Skeleton gently leaning to his knees, examining the flowers and drawing carefully. The drawing was a bit creased, and the flowers were a bit mangled. Gently mistral picked up the flowers and plucked a few frayed petals, and he gingerly began to run the creases out of Asriels drawing.

With Asriels gifts in hand, the gentle skeleton moved to Asriel and carefully scoped the boy to his feet. His voice was soft, calmly pulling the wrinkles from the boys shirt.

"It's ok...it's ok..." he gently reassured. "Asriel...it's alright...look." He showed him the gifts, which we already in much better condition than they were when they fell.

"....no matter the trial or challenge, no matter what we lose... we can always recover..." he did his best to smile.

"Don't ever forget that." He handed them back to the boy, wiping his tears and cheeks with a handkerchief.

"Patience my dear brother, it is a virtue that can serve us all quite well in the future. Oh no!" Mistral would exclaim in a mocking tone, "It appears my bow tie is getting the best of me! It is confounding me in a dexterous duel of fingers vs ribbon! I may not make it out of this one Lucian! You may have to wait even longer....!"

A hearty laugh would escape from the elder brothers dressing room as the house would vibrate. The passion and excitement from his brother was inspiring. Soon Lucien would most likely be delighted to hear the clicking of his brothers shoes walking down the stairs. "Only kidding Lucian, but I do encourage you to think about what I said. After all, it has served me well lately."

Mistral appeared before Lucian, a snug black bow tie on his trachea, a clean white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled and tied up, exposing his forearms, a black dress vest, and black dress pants and leather dress shoes completing his appearance. "But yes, I am ready. Shall we?" Mistral would click his teeth and tilt his head happily as he gestured towards the door.

"And if you would please, recite your goals once more to me as we walk out, it is important that you keep those fresh in mind, regardless of whatever it is you are doing.. be sure to keep them in mind and ready at all times."

The minutes of silence were heartbreaking.

As Mistral could merely listen, he felt his jaw practically trembling as he tried to comprehend the amount of pain Sans has endured throughout his life. The very fact that it was taking him this long to dig into his feelings filled Mistral with sadness. The Caretaker instinctively found himself reaching his hand outward, his soul instinctively trying to console the young Skeleton.

'I'm so sorry.' Mistral would speak internally, his hands practically trembling. 'Please, find the courage to let go....'
And finally, Sans began to speak, a rush of relief overtook Mistral as he finally relaxed, his teeth slowly clenching in approval of Sans' courage. 'Good... just don't stop until you're finished.' He knew Sans couldn't hear his thoughts, but the skeleton had hoped it would somehow make the situation flow in a hopeful direction.

There were many times that Mistral had felt tempted to speak, yet the patient part of his soul told him to wait, and he obeyed.  Mistral would feel his fingers tighten as Sans would explain Gaster's sudden intrusion, asserting his presence to the point of over saturation. Such ego and arrogance, it was sickening. He felt sadness and empathy for Sans trying to reason with his father, only to have that avenue closed entirely for Sans to settle and surrender his home.

If Mistral could cry, he would have succumbed to it by this point. However, he was sure that the ache in his soul was enough to express a sensation such as that, especially after hearing Sans lose his composure for the briefest of moments.

["...No...it's alright, -Sans-." Mistral's voice would shake, doing his best to be strong for his friend. "...I am so sorry...I...wish I could have done more for you two...I'm always here for you if you need me, but I know sometimes that isn't enough, and I'm so sorry I can't do more than that.."]

Mistral placed his hand on his forehead, voice shaking.

["It fills me with so much sorrow to hear this, Sans. But...it's okay to not know, it's okay to worry. I know you've had to look after your brother for so many years...but it's okay to not be ready for everything. That's life, and in order to move forward, we need accept inevitabilities. But I can assure you, resentment is a burden that weighs even the most powerful souls down. It is difficult to relinquish, but you must make peace with it if you wish flourish."]

["You may know how to do that just yet, and it may take some time... but you must never stop searching for peace. You cannot let yourself become jaded, you cannot ever succumb to darkness... Do you understand? I know you're hurt, and angry, but I believe the most gifted of souls are challenged the most, and if they overcome said challenges, they grow into extraordinary beings of hope and inspiration."]

["Never give anyone that power over you, my friend, not even your father."]

[...I was asking if you were alright about seeing your father again, Sans.]

Mistral reinforced this matter, his tone carefully direct, yet considerate. [...I understand you may not wish to speak of him, but it is important to me to know how you are dealing with his sudden reintroduction into your life. I will contact your brother on this matter as well, but I am speaking to you now. While the matters you have mentioned fill me with great concern, I wish to speak of this topic first.]

....

[Please, Sans, do not hesitate to speak your mind. I'm aware of how you handle your struggles, but everyone needs someone to speak with once in a while...

You cannot dodge forever...I am here for you....

...I love you and your brother too much to leave you to deal with your ordeals alone....Please do not shy from the solace I offer you.]

["I know you do, Sans, but just be sure you're doing it at the right time."] Mistral fought the urge to ask if Sans was alright after hearing the groan but the younger Skeketon had already asked a similar question. The elder clicked in response, looking down.

["Well... I have been worried. That's one of the reasons I decided to contact you, but other than that, my duties still never cease. With all the recent happenings however, my job has grown more difficult, but it is nothing that I cannot handle."]

["Though to be honest my own well being is not a priority most if the time. But, I do appreciate you asking."]

...

["...I'm sure you're aware, but your father has made himself known again."] Mistral would sigh. ["...Are you alright, Sans?"]

["....I wished nothing more than to educate you on the irresponsibility your lifestyle encourages."] he clicked, irritation spewing from his trachea.

Sans would here numerous vertebrae popping in succession, but then there was a pause,

["...And yet..."]

There was a sighing sound.

["...Sans, I'm aware my passions augment my speech. Unfortunately you receive much scrutiny from me, though you should know that I only react to your choices the way I do because I'm very much aware of your potential. I'm aware you may have your reasons, I just do not want to see you lose anything in this world."]

["Listen to me...the pain of knowing you could have changed something if you took the initiative at the time is...unbearable...I apologize for my outburst, Sans, but take it from on old bone bag like me... you do not want to live a life of regret. I implore you to think about that."]

There was a brief moment of silence

["I certainly do not wish to believe you're continuing to waste your time even further, Sans.] Mistral's tone was quiet, yet harsh. It was laced with a refined eloquence, yet  with a chilling edge that reeked of experience. There was no doubt Mistral was, as Sans would most likely refer as, a bag of dusty old bones.

The sounding of a creaking jaw could be heard through the line.

["Say what you will, but know that your lack of action will cause you great pain... I know this to be true..."] the last word practically steamed through his teeth, as burnt memories of a young prince flashed in his mind.

*Faint static*

[".............Do you understand?"]
