Zelia leaned forward over the table to get a better look at the monster's poem, but she couldn't understand anything that was written on the page. She frowned and concentrated hard, trying to read it. She opened her mouth to ask them how they were going to perform if no one could understand them. But, before she could say anything, they had gotten up and had begun moving towards the exit. Zelia watched them leave, and felt a slight pang of sadness.

She looked around at the rest of the restaurant, and saw that it had filled up quickly. In a dark corner, she spotted a familiar figure. Just as Zelia was getting up to go say "hello" to Boreas, the bell above the door rung as someone else entered. She glanced up, and was surprised to see her older sister, Dylcia, rushing into the building. As soon as she spotted Zelia, she made a bee-line for her. From where she was sitting, Zelia could see that her sister carried two packed bookbags. She knew that they were important for something, but she couldn't remember what.

When Dylcia finally reached her sister, she grabbed her arm and tried to pull her back towards the door. "Come on, Zelia! How many times have I reminded you this week that we had somewhere to go tonight?" She glared at the younger monster, and Zelia flinched away from her gaze. She was afraid to admit that she had forgotten whatever important event her sister was talking about. Instead, she ducked her head and muttered an apology.

Dylcia paused and turned to her. She sighed and ran one hand through her short hair. "Look, I know you probably don't even know what I'm talking about, but I have been planning this trip ever since we got a place of our own. We need a break from Gravelshire; we need to go somewhere different for a while. I know you've been looking forward to this performance, but I can't reschedule this. We have to leave tonight, and we won't be back for a few months. Trust me, it'll be fun... an adventure! You'll love it in Woodland."

When Zelia heard that last sentence, she gasped. The important event that she had forgotten about had been their vacation! "Oh, no! That's today?? I can't believe I let myself forget again. Don't worry, I'm ready to leave. Let's go!" The excited monster grabbed her bag from her sister's shoulders and ran to the door. She didn't care that she almost hit two monsters as she rushed by. The only thing on her mind was the thought of a brand new town to explore and escape to. She turned around one last time, without even noticing that she was blocking the entire doorway and making a scene. Zelia waved her sister over, suddenly taking charge of their departure. "Hurry up, Dylcia!"

After the elder monster had caught up, the two left the restaurant and began walking towards the new and unfamiliar province.

2
Zelia didn't mind that the other monster didn't answer her question. They had just met, so she thought that maybe he didn't want to share his name yet. Zelia retracted her hand, smiling once more at him. "Isn't this exciting? I can't wait to hear what kinds of talent these monsters have. I would've written a poem myself, but I was so busy working that I never got to it. I also can't think of any inspiration that would've helped me make one. Have you ever written a poem?"

She decided to stick to yes or no questions, after deciding that maybe this other monster didn't talk much. Zelia watched as he sat down, not minding that he took the other seat at her table. It's not like she was saving it for anyone, since all of her friends had other plans for this night.

3
The raptor-like monster glanced up as someone else appeared beside her. She was momentarily startled, but the panic subsided as she inspected him (his name was Saiph, but she didn't know this yet). He looked like a normal monster, but Zelia felt that there was something suspicious about him. Her eyes moved from his button eyes to his grimy feet. She smiled at him. "Hello! I don't think I've seen you around before. I'm Zelia, what's your name?"

Although she tried to come off as friendly, she was still slightly unnerved by the quietness of this monster. Zelia held out a hand for him to shake, her smile becoming wider. She had to admit that she was fascinated by this creature, and she hoped that they might sit together during the performances.

4
Zelia entered Espresso Yourself and glanced around briefly at the monsters that were seated or walking around. She smiled to herself at the reminder that she was off from work this night for the special event. After seeing no one that she recognized, she headed over to an empty table closest to the main counter. The atmosphere was exciting and she was looking forward to the upcoming performances. Zelia believed that she didn't have any talent herself, but she still wished to cheer on the other monsters.

"I wonder if Boreas will show up," she said to herself. "It would be interesting to see him recite a poem, heh." Zelia looked around once more at the monsters before fixing her gaze on the performers and others who were working on setting up. She wondered for a moment whether or not she should offer to help...

Zelia shook her head. No, she would enjoy her night off by relaxing and not doing any work. She smiled to herself and leaned back in her chair, waiting for the event to begin.

"My pleasure!" Zelia smiled again at the ice dragon before waving after him. She looked down, surprised, at the 15 G before taking it. "It really wasn't a problem at all, see ya!"

She watched as he left the restaurant, and felt a pang of sadness at seeing him leave. Zelia was jolted from her thoughts by a shout from her sister, who was telling her to get to work. She sighed and retreated back to the kitchens to begin her work day.

"Alright, that's fine!" Zelia didn't want it to seem like she was pressuring Boreas into using a discount. That's just more money for us. She pushed away the evil thought that had come to her mind, and instead just smiled at him.

She pushed back from the counter, suddenly excited to begin making the smoothie. "Coming riiiiight up!" Zelia retreated back into the kitchens and went right to the smoothie maker. She was glad that the other workers didn't ask her what she was doing; in fact, they acted like this was completely normal. As she told her co-workers what her companion had ordered, she grabbed the ingredients. Zelia returned to the smoothie-maker and handed the strawberries and bananas over to the other monster. He took them and placed them into the blender before turning it on.

Almost five minutes later, Zelia returned from the kitchen, forcing herself not to run. She set the smoothie onto the counter and told Boreas how much he owed for it. She was slightly proud of herself for making it so quickly, but she was also sure that the smoothie was still going to taste amazing.

Zelia followed him, matching her stride with his. She smiled to herself, slightly surprised that Boreas had accepted her invitation. "Trust me, you're going to love it! And I'm sure the boss would be okay with lowering the price for you just a little bit. " She skipped so she was ahead of him and turned around and began walking backwards. "It won't take that long, my co-workers are pretty quick when making smoothies."

The two finally arrived at Espresso Yourself, and Zelia walked in like she owned the place. Which, she didn't... the boss did. She walked around behind the counter and leaned on the counter to look at Boreas. She ignored the other waitress at the counter. Zelia put on a big, cheesy smile and said playfully, "Welcome to Espresso Yourself, how may I take your order?"

Zelia smiled again. "You should try the banana-strawberry smoothie sometime! That one is my personal favorite. I love just making the smoothies, but it's also great to see the happy look on people's faces once they try them. Hey, maybe you should come with me to work? I could probably give you a discount on something."

She was aware that she was rambling, but really she was just trying to stall for time. She hoped her boss wouldn't be that angry with her for arriving so late to work, but she didn't care that much. Zelia just wanted to get this day over with so she could go back to bed and sleep some more.

Zelia tilted her head slightly, wondering what Boreas was going to say. She quickly pushed the thought away. If he had wanted to say...whatever it was...then he would've said it already, there was no need to pester him about it.

"It's a pleasure to meet you!"
She smiled at Boreas' compliment to her restaurant. "Oh, thanks! I,erm, sometimes make the smoothies myself. Which ones have you tried so far?"

Zelia had watched as Boreas turned his head away, and she had heard his muttered comment. Frowning slightly, she asked, "Well, what do you mean by that? You seem nice enough to talk to."

"I was actually on my way to work," Zelia smiled at him slyly. "I wonder if my boss would let me off the hook if I arrived with a member of the Royal Guard as my 'escort'?" she mumbled to herself.

Zelia froze for a moment. She looked up at the other monster, and realized that she didn't recognize him. He definitely wasn't one of the regulars at Espresso Yourself, and she didn't think that she had seen him around before.

"I-erm... Well, I live in Gravelshire. I come to Snowdin to work at my job, Espresso Yourself. Have you heard of it?"

She blinked, studying him for a moment. He appeared to be some kind of guard, so Zelia thought that he was patrolling before she had ran into him. She smiled at the creature and stuck out her hand. "I'm Zelia, by the way. Sorry again for running into you."

It didn't even faze her that she was wasting precious time to get to work.

Zelia rushed into the little town of Snowdin, and was slightly startled by the sudden coldness under her feet. She sprinted up a slight hill and entered the town a couple blocks from Espresso Yourself. Glancing around, she was happy to see familiar faces. As she headed up the road, she was blinded by light reflecting off of something. She shut her eyes quickly, but continued running.

CRASH

Zelia rammed straight into someone. She lay there for a moment before finally struggling to get up. She shivered, for the person below her seemed to be really cold. She finally opened her eyes and gasped at the icy, dragon-like figure below her.

"Ohmygosh, I'm soooo sosososo sorry!" She scrambled off of him and began to brush off her uniform. There was now a cold, brown and white streak down her apron. She glanced back at the other monster. "I should've been watching where I was going...Are you okay??"

Zelia trotted down the worn path and had a sudden pang of pride for getting this far on her walk without getting distracted. She smiled slightly and sniffed the cool air. It smelled like it always did: earthy with a fresher smell that came from the glowing mushrooms. She paused and leaned down to pick one up. It was something that she usually did whenever she took this path. Zelia held the mushroom up in front of her and looked into the blue-green glowing that was coming off of it. It lit up a small area around her as she walked along. She didn't even realize that she had slackened her pace. Zelia slowed down even more, mesmerized by the small mushroom. She loved to watch the glowing spores slowly die out after she had picked the mushroom from the ground. Sure enough, the spores were becoming dimmer and dimmer.

As a sudden thought came to her mind, Zelia turned to the side of the road and tried to plant the little mushroom back into the ground. She knelt beside it and wondered whether it would grow back or not. She made a mental note to check on it the next day...if she remembered.

Zelia leapt up from the ground. Speaking of remembering, she had forgotten that she was supposed to be going to work. She pulled out her phone and checked the time. Groaning, she realized that she had spent almost ten minutes looking at a mushroom. A mushroom! Grumbling to herself under her breath, she sprinted down the path until she reached Snowdin.

Almost as soon as she turned the corner at the edge of her apartment complex, Zelia's sister, Dylcia, sent her a text message. Zelia pulled her small phone out and looked at the message.

>>Hey, have you left yet?

Zelia sighed as she typed out her response. Her sister was always worrying about her, and Zelia was glad for that. Lately, Dylcia had been checking on her constantly, and it was starting to become annoying.

>>Yeah, I just did. And, before you ask, I remembered to turn off the lights.

>>Good. I'm clocking out now. You'd better hurry, the Boss said if you were late again he'd cut your pay.

>>I should probably go then, I'll talk to you when I get home. Love ya.

>>Love ya sis, ttyl.

Zelia shut off her phone and scurried down the road. She had about thirty minutes before she had to clock in, and it took her almost fifteen minutes just to walk there. That is, if she didn't get distracted. She picked up her pace as she walked down the road. Zelia looked around at the familiar buildings and she could almost hear her sister scolding her and telling her to hurry up. She shook her head in an attempt to help herself to focus on getting to work.

Finally, she reached the end of Gravelshire and proceeded onto a shortcut through Waterfall. Zelia had twenty minutes to get to Espresso Yourself.

Gravelshire / Off To Work (Zelia Vignette)
« on: February 27, 2018, 07:14:08 am »
In Character Date & Time: 17th November UUY 1, Approximately 7-8 AM

Beep, beep, beep

Zelia's alarm on her phone went off, startling the monster. She shot up off of her couch, where she had been dozing while watching some comedy, and dashed to her room. Looking around quickly, she spotted her uniform for Espresso Yourself and pulled on the pressed white polo and black dress pants. It took her a few minutes to find her apron, but she finally saw it hanging by the door. Zelia speed-walked back to her living room, smoothing out the wrinkles of her shirt as she went. She stopped suddenly and looked around the small apartment room. Now where did I put my shoes...? She cut her thought off abruptly, blinking. Wait, I don't wear shoes.

The young monster was aware that she had a tendency to forget the simplest things, and, if she was being honest with herself, she didn't know what to do to fix it. Shaking her head at her forgetfulness, she grabbed the keys for her apartment. Before she left her room, she flicked off the lights and locked the door.

Zelia descended the steps, which weren't very long because her home was only on the second floor. She waved to the few other monsters that she recognized, but she tried to keep her head down for the most part. Even though she loved seeing monsters and talking to them, today she tried to avoid them...she knew that she was going to be late for work yet again.
