Snowdin / Re: Come On In, The Coffee's Hot! (Open Scene)

Cliff sighed to himself at his new accomplishment of not having someone move just by waving at them. And as his food arrived his brows rose. "Wow, I didn't expect edible artistry," he noted as it came, impressed despite the permanent sarcastic monotone in his voice. He didn't know if he should let his coffee grow cold or to forget the pattern layered in the sandwiches; to grow hungry or grow forgetful of the wings in the froth; to remember flavors or remember how damn good it all looked. He picked up and sandwich and much to his regret took a bite out of it, until the flavors kicked in and he lost that thought.

Cliff didn't intend to appear as a threat; he was just expressing how he felt today. He would only ever mess with somebody if he felt threatened enough to not play dead. Even then he wouldn't lay a finger on them before it happened; blame it on his instinct. Others blamed it on his 'drunk nature'. Oh please, he knew the limits he could take and that only ever happened in his teens. Just because he smelt like it didn't mean his atomic structure was made of alcohol. He just made sure he'd drink enough to keep some spirits in him, to make him actually do something with his life.

As the fire elemental waved he was kind of surprised that she did, and with such a brilliant smile. Usually he could see disgust or fear when people smiled at him, how the emotion glassed over their eyes and faked their smiles. So in response to this phenomena, he rose a hand a lazily waved back.

The door aggressively swung open, the pane shaking as another customer came in. Cliff rubbed the sides of his eyes with him thumb and index finger, trying to be more gentle as he closed the door behind him. "Sheesh, I hate Mondays," he grumbled under his breath, his voice gruff as if he had just woken up. But he had been up since 7am despite last night, rewiring a resident's house in Snowdin. And as he would usual do when working there, he would stop at Espresso Yourself for lunch. He hadn't been in a while, having to help fix up a lot of homes in Waterfall due to those quakes, so it was kind of nice to return.

The opossum staggered into the line, boots scuffing the floor lazily. He rolled back his shoulders as he contemplated what his stomach desired. At the counter, he sounded lazy as he talked, " I'll have a Mocha and a club sandwich." He slammed the gold on the counter. " Keep the change. "

As he got his order he sauntered to a table and dropped into a seat, running a hand across the top of his head. All morning he felt sluggish and had a headache, and not just from the weight of his boots or the tools around his belt. As usual, he downed too many into the early hours of the morning. Did he regret it? No; it took his mind of Elle when he didn't want her to be on it.

Cliff's attention diverted over to the cheery fire elemental, literally lighting up the entire place except for his personal bubble. He would often be amazed at how everyone could be so happy, that in his better days he was like that too. Maybe those years ago he would have brought up a conversation with her, but he was in the now and could only hide the curiosity in his gaze.

Inactive Characters / Cliff J. Hangar
« on: December 14, 2017, 12:46:42 pm »
Name: Cliff  Joseph Hangar
Gender: Male
Species: Opossum
Height: 5 ft 5 if he stands straight
Magic/abilities: Excellent climber, can play dead, knows little electrical magic
Age: Late 30s

Appearance: Anthropomorphic opossum with dirty white fur, typically wears a brown vest, shorts, boots, and a stained white long sleeve.

Personality: Cliff is 80% most likely to be drunk. This means most of the time he is angry yet unaware of it, inserts sarcasm into every compliment, and only smiles over winning an argument. His sober side, however, shows an excellent listener and sympathizer. Either way, Cliff loves to give advice, though does it blunt, harshly, and without thinking when drunk. When threatened, he would make a sassy remark before playing dead. People normally associate that with his drunkenness rather than his animal instinct.

Background:

Cliff formerly worked at the Core, mainly working on its construction and maintenance. Back then he was just one of the boys, and had an outstanding work ethic. However during a power outage he and others had to fix his fiancee and coworker, Elle, got seriously electrocuted by the systems and today is still in an unstable condition. This caused him to drink away his emotions for ages, and started up his alcoholism. Cliff would even turn up to work drunk, and was later fired for being seen as a hazard to himself and other workers. To move on, he’d down more drinks. He moved on to performing simple household electrical repairs for his career instead, making sure to spend some time each week to visit Elle until she later died with him by her side.

Voice reference: (First minute gives a good idea. I couldn’t find any decent enough clips that were shorter)
